Why Visit Dr Pansare Pathology ?
FNAC is commonly used for the evaluation of lumps in organs such as the breast, thyroid, lymph nodes, salivary glands, liver, and lungs. It can help differentiate between benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) conditions, aid in determining the type and grade of cancer, and guide treatment decisions. There are different types of cytology, including Pap smear, FNAC, pleural cytology, ascitic fluid cytology, urine cytology test, cervical cytology test, effusion, and liquid-based cytology.
Benefits of FNAC include its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and minimal risk of complications. It is often performed as an outpatient procedure and does not require general anesthesia. However, FNAC needle has limitations, as the obtained sample may not always provide a definitive diagnosis, and in some cases, a more invasive procedure, such as a biopsy, may be necessary for further evaluation.
The results of a cytology FNAC are interpreted by a pathologist, who provides a report with a diagnosis or a recommendation for further evaluation by diagnostic center. Cytology test helps guide clinical management and treatment decisions for patients.
